Storylines to Watch For
- Brick Wall Between the Pipes- Sioux City’s Kyle Hayton has been one of the best goaltenders in the USHL this season, and a big reason for that has been his consistency on the road and at home — maintaining a 92.5% save rate away from home and 92.2% rate at home.
- Limiting Goals — Jared Rutledge has been stellar for the Gamblers at home this season, saving 93.6% of all shots while allowing 1.89 goals on average in 11 home contests.
10/29/13 — Sioux City 2, Green Bay 1 – Converting on a power play goal in the first period and another in the second, the Musketeers held true to a 2-0 advantage until midway through the final frame, where Nick Schmaltz brought Green Bay to within one with a power play goal of his own. The Gamblers, however, were unable to capitalize from that point forward and eventually fell 2-1. Jared Rutledge tallied 24 saves in the contest while Green Bay matched Sioux City 26-26 in shots on goal.
11/22/13 — Sioux City 3, Green Bay 2 (OT) – After a scoreless a first period for both squads, Sioux City broke through with two second-period goals to go up 2-0. Gavin Stoick trimmed the lead to 2-1 at the end of the period, however, and Schmaltz tied the game midway through the final period, sending the game into overtime. On their 29th shot of the contest, the Musketeers ended things with a power play goal from Blake Heinrich.
1/10/14 — Green Bay 5, Sioux City 2 — Scoring three goals in the first period for the third time this season, the Gamblers got off to the start they looked for against Kyle Hayton — one of the best goaltenders in the league. Rutledge staved off 27 Musketeer shots in the contest while Drew Best was responsible for two of Green Bay’s scores. “When he’s winning puck battles and competing,” Lalonde said after the game, “he ends up finding himself on the score sheet and that was the case tonight.”
