The Green Bay Gamblers (17-12-5) put an emphatic end to their brief three game losing streak Friday night at the Edge Ice Arena in Chicago, coming out on the winning end of a 6-0 score over the Steel (16-18-2). It was the second time this season Green Bay has held an opponent scoreless in a game, and marked the first time since Jan. 26, 2013 that it posted a road shutout of an opponent.

After a slow-developing start, Gavin Stoick put Green Bay up 1-0 with two minutes remaining in the first period. Matt Weis chipped in soon after with his tenth goal of the season, giving the Gamblers a 2-0 lead heading into the second frame.
Dawson Cook, Brent Gates Jr., and Matthew Purmal all contributed with goals later in the contest, and Weis added one more for good measure — giving him 31 points for the season, second most on the roster to Nick Schmaltz (34), who recorded two assists Friday night.
Jared Rutledge saved each of Chicago’s 19 shots on goal before being pulled in favor of Cam Hackett late in the third period, who notched three saves of his own en route to the shutout victory.
The Gamblers will return home to the Resch Center tomorrow night to take on Team USA in the organization’s 15th annual ‘Teddy Bear Toss’ game. Start of the game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT, and you can catch the ‘pregame primer’ for the matchup tomorrow morning.
