In the finale of a two-game weekend set against the top-seeded Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, the Green Bay Gamblers were unable to maintain their early 1-0 lead, and eventually lost by a 4-1 regulation score. With the loss, Pat Mikesch and company fell to 13-17-4 through their first 34 regular season contests – good enough for seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
Kevin Reich received the start between the pipes for the Gamblers, successfully warding off 32 of 36 (.894%) of shots on goal against him while killing all three RoughRider power plays. Marc Michaelis netted his second goal of the weekend in the losing effort, with assists credited to Vili Saarijarvi and Chris Brown. Overall, Green Bay was out-shot by a 20-36 margin.
With both weekend losses in the rear-view mirror, the Gamblers will travel back home to the Resch Center for practice this week in preparation for this weekend’s two-game set against Sioux City. Game-time for Saturday’s contest is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET, and 3:05 p.m. CT on Sunday, Jan. 25. Stay tuned for news, notes and updates throughout the week leading up to puck drop.
